The experience
You board half an hour before sailing, walk up the gangway onto the largest cruise vessel on the Brahmaputra, and find your spot — the open upper deck if you want the sky, the breezy roofed middle deck if you'd rather be near the bar and the music.
Then the ropes come off. This is a real sail, not a float: in winter the route passes Umananda, Karmanasa and Urvashi islands and slips under the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu while the sun drops toward the hills. The city recedes, a kilometre of open water turns gold and then rose, and the live singer starts on the middle deck.
Order a drink from the bar, a plate from the kitchen — everything on board is à la carte, ordered and paid for as you go, so you choose exactly how much the evening becomes — and watch the famous Brahmaputra sunset the way it's meant to be watched: from the water. As the light fades, Guwahati's lights rise along the banks, and the boat turns for home.
What's included
The ticket covers the 60-minute cruise and the live entertainment — a singer and DJ on the middle deck every sailing. Good to know before you board: food and drinks aren't included in the ticket. The on-board bar and restaurant serve à la carte, billed as you order — so you pay only for what you feel like, whether that's a chai at the railing or a full spread at golden hour.
Every guest has the run of the vessel's public spaces: the open upper deck, the roofed middle deck, and a fully covered air-conditioned lounge — welcome shade in summer, warmth in winter, shelter if it rains. Clean washrooms on every deck, and a dedicated smoking area.
Timings
Sunset moves through the year, and the cruise moves with it — we adjust departure times through the seasons so you're on the water for the best of the light. In winter that means sailing around 4:00 PM (a December cruise catches the ~4:30 PM sunset mid-river); in summer, closer to 5:30 PM.

Our captains are licensed second-class masters, and the vessel runs regular third-party surveys, safety drills and pollution tests. Life jackets and buoys are aboard, first aid and fire systems in place, and every deck is railed. With women across our front-office and service crew and well-populated decks each sailing, solo travellers — women included — cruise with us comfortably every week. The ride itself is smooth; at most a gentle rock in a strong wind.
Getting there & boarding
The Brahmaputra rises and falls with the seasons, so we board from the Gateway of Guwahati terminal, Panbazar in winter and from Uzanbazar in summer. Your exact boarding point is always printed on your boarding pass — check it before you book your cab. On Google Maps, search "Alfresco Grand".
Please report at least 30 minutes before departure — the boat sails on schedule and cannot wait for late arrivals. Between November and January, Guwahati's evening traffic is at its heaviest; give yourself up to an hour.
Around 15 minutes from Guwahati railway station, 40 from Kamakhya station, and roughly an hour to an hour twenty from the airport, traffic depending. At Panbazar there's paid multilevel parking opposite the terminal and free parking at the ghat just before it; the Uzanbazar point has free parking.
Boarding is a short walk up to the ship, then one flight of stairs to the middle deck and two to the upper deck. Guests with limited mobility, wheelchairs or strollers should plan accordingly — please call us before booking and we'll do our best to help.

Tickets start from ₹700 per person, with different rates for decks and children — see the booking page for current prices. Prices are fixed year-round, with no weekend or holiday surge, and the same rate online, by phone, or at the counter.
Food and drinks aren't included in the sunset cruise ticket — there's a full bar and restaurant on board, so you can order exactly what you feel like, à la carte, as the sun goes down. Outside food isn't allowed (water is fine, and a celebration cake is always welcome).
Absolutely — children cruise with us every day, with a guardian responsible for them on board. All decks are railed, life jackets are available on request, and infants aged 3 and under sail free (book a child ticket if your little one needs their own seat).
In genuinely extreme weather the boat stays ashore and your sunset cruise is refunded in full. Short of that, the river is remarkably forgiving: decks can be breezy on the water, so bring a light layer, and the covered air-conditioned lounge is open to every guest if it's hot, cold or raining.
Online booking opens 2 days before the cruise date and closes 4 hours before departure; walk-ins are welcome subject to availability. In winter, sailings regularly sell out — book ahead. Groups of more than 20 should message or call us directly.
